Palm Bay's phased sewer hookup plan
Palm Bay has the most septic systems of any city in Brevard — a legacy of 1960s–80s platting that laid out tens of thousands of quarter-acre lots without sewer. The city has approved a four-year phased hookup plan with fees for homeowners, and outreach begins in summer 2027.
What we know

What it means for you
- If your street is in an early phase: a sewer main is coming; connection will be the compliance path. The septic-to-sewer grant may offset eligible costs — apply the moment your phase is announced.
- If your street isn't in the plan (large parts of SW and SE Palm Bay will stay septic for years): the ATU upgrade grant is your path, and it's funded now.
- If your system fails before your phase arrives: you're in the "early trigger" situation — the replacement must meet the 65% standard. Call the county before the contractor.
